Director, US Tax Group (Company Flexible On Location)
This 2.5B, public listed global media company creates and distributes scripted and unscripted entertainment. It has studio business in 12 countries outside of the U.K, including a sizeable business in the U.S. Given their major centers of activity in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, California (San Francisco, North Hollywood, Los Angeles), Colorado, Georgia, Louisiana, London, the company is open and flexible on location of the Director, US Tax Group.
The person in this role will enjoy the opportunity to travel to the locations and meet the people they will be working with in the divisions. Developing an understanding of the business units and building strong relationships are important in this role. The incumbent Director is retiring.
As Head of Tax and Director, US Tax Team, they will lead a team of tax professionals that manages all of company’s US tax obligations, including overseeing Federal and State tax compliance, tax reporting, and working with senior management to implement and maintain tax efficient corporate structures, financing arrangements, and operating policies and procedures. They will work with financial, production, and HR management within the company, both in the US and UK, as well as third party tax advisors.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Oversee the completion of Federal and State income tax returns, including all related analysis and support on a timely basis.
- Advise management on all aspects of tax planning and reporting to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes.
- Oversee and monitor audits of Federal and State income tax returns and local filings
- Responsible for overseeing annual Section 482 transfer pricing documentation study
- Responsible for tax reporting and tax accounting at year end and interim.
- Prepare quarterly and five year-year income tax forecasts
- Monitor US tax legislation that may impact the company and advise management
- Create and advise on implementing a strategic tax plan for the U.S. operations
- Advise HR and Business Units on any tax related legal and employment matters
- Advise Finance and Production teams on State tax incentives and location tax exposures.
- Advise management on corporate acquisitions, dispositions, and reorganization structures
- Maintain good standing of all companies within applicable states Company is operating in
- Form and liquidate companies as required in the reorganization and restructuring
- Responsible for oversight of personal tax returns for UK Expatriates seconded to the US
Qualifications Required Include:
- Ten plus years of related experience with at least 5 years in a public accounting firm.
- Must have demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment
- Minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting or a Masters’ Degree in Business Taxation preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required in this role
- Strong ability to effectively communicate tax to non-tax executives
- Flexibility and creativity to find solutions that support the business needs
- Entertainment industry experience desirable but not essential
