The I.R.C. Sec. 179D Energy Tax Deduction for Building Envelope Efficiency previously expired on December 31, 2013.

However, most recently on March 26th, Senator Ed Markey and 28 other U.S. Senators sent a signed letter to the leaders of the Senate Finance Committee to renew key tax extenders that incentivize energy efficiency and clean energy.  Included in these incentives is the I.R.C. Sec. 179D Energy Tax Deduction.

Both the Senate Finance Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee are using the month of April to address the numerous tax provisions that expired on December 31, 2013. Only time will tell if this incentive gets signed back into law, but many in Congress are optimistic.
