As a single parent with five children all about to be enrolled in college at the same time, I am searching for tax deductions. It is my understanding that there is the American Opportunity Credit of up to $2,500. Is this for all five children or do I receive a $2,500 credit for each child?

The American Opportunity Credit can be used in full for as many qualifying students as there are on the return. So if all five of the kids are in their first four years of post secondary school full time and have eligible expenses then each could qualify for up to the full $2500 credit.
