Professor Zelinsky is a tax scholar on the subject of United States tax law and teaches at Cardozo Law School in New York City.
In addition, he teaches frequently at Yale Law School and has taught at Cornell, New York University and Columbia University.

Edward Zelinsky has testified before the United States Congress and the House Judiciary Committee. In 2003, he challenged the State of New York on the so-called "convenience of the employer" doctrine which enabled New York to engage in what Zelinsky and others have alleged is "unconstitutional double taxation of telecommuters". The case, Zelinsky v. Tax Appeals Tribunal was denied certiorari by the United States Supreme Court after the New York Court of Appeals decided against Zelinsky. Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd subsequently attempted to introduce federal legislation that would prevent New York and other states from engaging in such taxation.

Professor Zelinsky has authored two books "Taxing The Church: Religion, Exemptions, Entanglements And The Constitution" and "The Origins Of The Ownership Society" both available on Amazon. In addition, he has written extensively on the topic of Citizenship Taxation And Defining Residence For Income Tax Purposes.

Author of The Origins of the Ownership Society (Oxford, 2007) and Taxing the Church (Oxford, 2017). His articles have appeared in many publications including Harvard Law Review, Yale Law Journal, Columbia Law Review, Virginia Tax Review, Cardozo Law Review, Tax Notes and State Tax Notes.

Frequently lectures before professional groups on tax issues and has testified before Congress, most recently, before subcommittees of the House Judiciary Committee. Among his public service activities, Professor Zelinsky, who lives in New Haven, served seven terms on that community's Board of Alderman and for three and one-half years on New Haven's Board of Finance.

He is now a director of the Connecticut Retirement Security Authority. He was an editor of the Yale Law Journal, a teaching fellow in the Yale University Department of Economics, and law clerk to Judge J. Joseph Smith of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
