Automatic Exchange of Information Reporting Is Imminent!

HMRC has reminded financial institutions that the deadline for reporting their clients’ accounts under the Automatic Exchange of Information rules falls in less than a week’s time. Returns must be submitted by May 31, 2017, including reportable accounts for the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories agreement, and the first year for the OECD’s Common Reporting Standards.

Revised Country List For Automatic Exchange Of Information

In a Rev Proc 2016-56,2016-51 IRB, the IRS has updated two lists of countries with which the U.S. has in effect an agreement that requires payors to report certain deposit interest paid to nonresident alien individuals who are residents of the other country under Reg. § 1.6049-8(a) and Reg. § 1.6049-4(b)(5).

The Swiss Government Released Q&A’s On Automatic Exchange of Information

Friday, October 10, 2014, we posted Swiss Consider Automatic Exchange of Information Pursuant to Model 1 FATCA Agreement! where we discussed that the mandates definitively adopted by the Federal Council are:

1. The introduction of the automatic exchange of information is to be negotiated with the EU.

2. Regarding implementation of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), a Model 1 FATCA agreement should be with negotiated with the United States. With the new agreement, data would be exchanged automatically between the competent authorities on a reciprocal basis. Read more
