New Technology Helps Build Tax Organizations

The focus of my career has been guiding tax professionals and tax organizations in their growth and success. In this post, I will share the roadblocks most tax leaders face in finding the highly technical tax expertise they need for their organizations. There is a connectivity challenge tax leaders face today and one that I spent more than three decades identifying, researching and ultimately solving. The old days of tax executives positioned behind the corporate veil has changed dramatically. Technology now exists that enables corporate tax executives to maintain their privacy yet build connections to a new stream of connections and prospective hires. Tax executives who adopt this new technology built for niche tax experts will attract the leaders in the future of the profession. Leaders always look for new and better ways to develop and grow. They are also often the early adopters of new technology.

Allow me to extol 1) a day in the life of a lead tax executive in a corporate tax organization and 2) a day in the life of a tax professional wanting to work for a corporate tax organization. Management in tax organizations have the need to attract the right people to fill highly technical roles in their tax departments. Yet they cannot find the people they need because no one knows who they are or how to reach them. If they do know the name of the lead tax executive; it is often very difficult, if not nearly impossible to connect with them. When people do not know you or how to reach you, your pool of prospects dry up fast!  Corporate tax executives need to be more accessible to the next generation.

A January 6, 2015 Forbes article states that most of their users engage only in the free features: LinkedIn Reprices Premium Services. As a result, the majority of people you want to connect with in tax are never connecting with you if they must pay to send you an email. Let me remind you that tax professionals are always focused on saving money and not spending it. The question is “How do you connect with technically qualified tax professionals who do not want to pay to connect with you on LinkedIn?” The Answer is…”Make it easier for tax professionals to connect with you for free!”

Imagine what happens when a tax professional is trying to connect with an executive in a tax organization and ends up never having an email address or cannot find any information out about you (unless they pay). Many great tax professionals simply never get through to you; many great prospects are cast into the “black hole” of a company’s applicant tracking system (ATS). If a tax professional is lucky enough to pierce the black hole of the ATS; they must deal with the human resource professionals who tell me privately that reading a tax applicants resume is like reading an aliens resume; they honestly do not understand the vernacular. The truth is most tax professionals never get through to discuss working for you!

The world has changed for leaders of tax organizations! There is a much smarter way to connect with the tax talent that never makes it to you. Every corporate tax executive needs to build an online identity and brand that makes themselves accessible and visible. The first thing someone wants to know before they work for you is about you; the second thing they want to know is how to reach you (without having to pay to send you a message). We’ve built our business model at so no one ever pays to connect with you. We want to ensure better bridges are built in the tax community and that is why we are building a network of tax experts worldwide with higher connectivity. TaxConnections exists to make the world a much better place for tax professionals and tax organizations worldwide. Be part of the future of the tax profession.

Senior tax executives expect the utmost privacy when being introduced to multinational organizations about a new tax opportunity under consideration. Having said that, companies searching for a new head of tax expecting tax executive candidates to submit their resume through a resume portal, will never see a full slate of outstanding tax executives available due to a candidates’ desire for greater privacy. This is why privacy focused Uber Tax Recruiters consistently outperform in-house recruiters on tax executive searches.

We offer our clients a Performance Retainer Agreement arrangement so their HR department can still recruit and compete with the tax candidates we present on Head of Tax searches. The client pays us a partial fee upfront, and if they find a candidate they deem better than we introduce to them, we forfeit the final fee. Most of the time, they love and prefer our private introductions to tax executive candidates better than what they source through their own resume portals.

When we represent selling/buying small to medium-sized firms, firm owners/partners also demand greater privacy when considering the sale of their practice. TaxConnections provides a safe place to discuss their business needs, elevate their practices’ online reputation, and increase revenue through new streams of business development by outsourcing work and partnering with other firms.
