The Work Opportunity Tax Credit has been extended, and possibly made permanent. The WOTC for qualified vets is figured as a credit against income tax based on a percentage of the first-year wages. The first $6000 of wages per eligible employee generates a 40% credit, or $2400.
There are other credits for hiring veterans as well: (Hired after Nov. 21, 2011 but before Jan. 1, 2013).... Maximums: 1-Food stamps $2400; 2a - Disabled and hired within 1 year of active duty $4800. 2b - Disabled and unemployed more than 6 months $9600. 3- Unemployed more than 4 weeks but less than 6 months $2400 4-Unemployed more than 6 months $5600. This is the most recent information.,
