-what advise did you CPA/lawyer give?
-did the return trigger an audit?

Sorry to answer you too late since I did not allow to access it in the past due to various reasons here.
1. Unless you were filed the quarterly corporate income tax return, in general, it is very difficult for the tax payor to amend its Annual corporate income tax return as long as you have filed the annual corporate income tax return along with the annual audit report.
2. Certainly, it will easily attract an on spot review or a meeting called by the tax officer in charge while the local tax authorities found there is such amending China corporate income tax return filed.
3. It depends on the situation and the local practice. It may vary from the location to the location.
4. It is very hard to be determined. If you are willing to share your case with me, I am happy to look into it for your company initially. Once again, I am very sorry for this delay since I did not allow to get access it as long as I know there are somethngs there needed me to do. Sorry again. Paul
