How much money do I have to make to file taxes?
Tax Professional Answers
With regards to your message, you are only required to file a tax
return if you make over a certain income limit. These thresholds vary, but for someone who is single, that threshold is around $10,000. For those who are married and filing jointly, the threshold is closer to $20,000 (this would be both your incomes combined).
A big exception to this is if you are self employed. If you are Self-Employed, that number drops drastically to $400 (above this point you must file).
I hope this helps!
