Job hunting expenses, including travel, may be deductible as miscellaneous itemized deductions subject to the 2% threshold. You must be looking for a job in your current occupation or profession. If you have been unemployed for a substantial period of time, seeking a first job, or seeking a job in a new profession, the expenses are not deductible. You do not have to be successful in finding a job to deduct the costs.
