TaxConnections

The World of Alpha Launch

Anyone who has had the experience of going through Alpha Launch understands the World of Bugs experience. When you terminate one bug it seems one hundred more come at you. It is a process you must persevere through and persevere through some more and then some. What has made the process enjoyable is our team working together expeditiously to find solutions to resolve each of these issues.

Let’s discuss the discoveries of the first ten tax professionals to Sign Up. We realized our Sign Up process was confusing and we wanted to simplify the steps further. The team sat down and weighed the issue which was the importance of a straightforward Sign Up process while also weighing the security features we have in place. Everyday a new issue is raised and our team finds the best possible solution. We have an internal system in place that allows us to sit down and talk about all these matters in a focused way. It really helps that we have very experienced team members with years of solid management experience leading our team in meaningful ways. What were are focused on now is debugging which takes much time to resolve than you possibly imagine.

Very truly yours,

A Startup Named TaxConnections

What goes on behind the scenes of a startup named TaxConnections is nothing short of amazingly pure zeal! If you look up the definition of zeal you will discover that it means fearless tenacity. The TaxConnections startup team has an abundance of this trait!

How did we start? We started with an understanding of what really goes on inside the minds of tax professionals with a wide range of tax expertise around the world. We started out with the understanding that consumers and tax professionals had a desire to find each other and interact more easily.

How did we obtain this knowledge? As CEO and Founder of TaxConnections, Kat Jennings spent three decades listening to more than five hundred thousand conversations with tax professionals around the world. She was hired by Fortune 500 multinationals to find the very best tax professionals and reduce the high corporate tax rates paid in the United States. She is the one person with a longstanding, worldwide track record in executive tax search.

As a globally recognized consultant to multinational organizations searching for tax professionals, Kat has been retained by law firms, international public accounting firms and corporations including Apple Computer, AC Neilson, Accenture, Agilent Technologies, Allergan, Alza, American Express, American Media, Aon, Baker & McKenzie, Barclays Bank, Bechtel, Cargill, Carl Zieuss Vision, Century Aluminum, Chevron, Clorox, Citigroup, Commercials Metals, Constellation Energy, Countrywide, Del Monte, Deloitte Touche, DFS, DLA Piper, E&J Gallo Winery, Electronic Arts, Ernst &Young, Fox Entertainment, Fremont Investments, General Electric, Herbalife, Hewlett Packard, Hyatt, Intel, Jones Lang LaSalle, Kimco Realty, KLA Tencor, Koch Industries, KPMG, Levi Strauss, Liberty Mutual, LKQ, Loews, Logitech, Lucas Film, Maersk, McKesson, Nalco, Newell Rubbermaid, Nissan, Oracle, Pacific Gas & Electric, PwC, QAD, SAIC, SanDisk, Sanmina, Sempra Energy, SONY, Synopsys, Ticketmaster, Trimble Navigation, Toyota, Univar, Wal-Mart, Wells Fargo, Vertex, Yahoo, Xilinx.

What was the goal of TaxConnections? We wanted to make it possible for all consumers to have the same access to a wide range of tax expertise that the multinationals have access to when searching for a tax professional. We wanted consumers to have the ability to instantly Find A Tax Professional and Ask Tax Questions all over the world. Thus we have created the very first interactive “Worldwide Directory of Tax Professionals”.

How did you build this website? We built it the same way that Kat learned how to build strong multinational tax organizations. We built this organization one person at a time by weaving together an extraordinary team who compliment each other and work well together towards a common goal. Everyone involved in the TaxConnections site wants to save you money! The energy around here is amazing as we are so very proud of the fact that we have built something that affects consumers worldwide.

Stay tuned as we are entering Alpha Launch this week and then Beta prior to our Official Launch Party on Saturday, March 31st, 2012 held at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, CA. We are going to help everyone with the TaxConnections website from the beginning of their tax careers to the retirement of their tax careers. Build and Analyze discusses the importance of having a tax professional by your side

Marco Arment, of Instapaper fame, discusses the importance of having a CPA help you with your personal and business taxes, to ensure you don’t get audited, and to give you peace of mind, knowing that everything has been taken care of by a professional.

In a show normally about programming and development, this is some excellent tax advise for independent software developers, but also small business owners in general.

Give it a listen, and let us know what you think!

Should we abolish state income taxes?

If GOP members of congress have their way, that just might be what happens:

A year after Republicans swept into office across the country, many have trained their sights on what has long been a fiscal conservative’s dream: the steep reduction or even outright elimination of state income taxes.

The idea has circulated among academics and think-tank researchers for years. But it’s moving quietly into mainstream political discourse, despite the fact that such sweeping changes would almost certainly mean a total rewiring of tax systems at a time when most states are still struggling in the aftermath of the recession.

What do you think? Would simplifying the tax code and lessening the tax burden on millions of Americans be worth the lost revenue to the states? Sound off in the comments section!

Tax Notes from the State of the Union

Forbes has all the details:

International Taxes Are Too Complex. Individuals and businesses are reeling from the crushing complexity of our international tax laws, disproportionately steep penalties and stepped-up IRS enforcement. Many are uncertain how to meet their U.S. tax obligations. Small business taxpayers may have trouble understanding international tax rules and may not be able to afford professional help.

Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program. The Taxpayer Advocate doesn’t mince words, calling the IRS tactics in the offshore voluntary disclosure program “bait and switch.” With some people encouraged to participate who arguably shouldn’t have to, Ms. Olson posits a massive loss of trust over these issues. See IRS Watchdog Critiques Offshore Tax Amnesty and IRS watchdog accuses agency of “bait-and-switch.”

IRS Underfunding. If you are fearing an audit you might think underfunding the IRS is a good thing. But in audits and many other areas, Ms. Olson says the IRS needs resources. The IRS faces an increasingly diverse population, a surge in refund fraud and tax-related identity theft, and the need to implement new third-party information requirements.

The IRS doesn’t have the resources to manage its workload. The IRS is failing to meet the service needs of taxpayers, to detect and address noncompliance, and to maximize revenue collection.

Obama Said to Reprise Proposals on Taxes, Deficit in 2013 Budget

According to BusinessWeek, big changes could be coming in 2013:

Jan. 12 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama will reprise previously rejected deficit-reduction plans and tax increases on the wealthy while proposing new incentives for companies to return jobs to the U.S., as part of his fiscal 2013 budget, administration officials said.

The election-year spending plan, due to be presented to Congress Feb. 6, is intended to demonstrate the administration’s intent to chip away at the nation’s long-term deficits.

The nation is at a turning point, Obama told business leaders yesterday at a White House event, where he promised to seek tax breaks for companies that make new investments in the U.S. or bring jobs back from overseas. He didn’t give details.

“After shedding jobs for more than a decade, American manufacturers have now added jobs for two years in a row,” Obama said. “But when a lot of folks are still looking for work, now is the time for us to step on the gas.”

Economic growth and job creation are expected to be the main issues in the presidential campaign this year. Mitt Romney, a former Massachusetts governor and the front-runner for the Republican nomination, is making criticism of Obama’s stewardship of the economy a prime focus of his stump speeches.

The unemployment rate has declined for four straight months to 8.5 percent in December, and the Labor Department has reported six consecutive months of job gains of 100,000 or more. Still, the rate has been above 8 percent for almost two years, and little headway has been made in recovering the 8.75 million jobs lost as a result of the recession that ended in June 2009.
